What is purpose of the GoldMemory and what is the way of testing?

The GoldMemory is diagnostic utility serving to thorough testing
non-error function of the memory subsystem on the platform of PC.
It is based on 386 processor architecture.
The GoldMemory uses special designed algorithms of error detection.
Algorithms meand simulate very complicated operations connected with
intensive use of memory subsystem (including system bus,CPU,caches,
memory modules,etc..).Power supply stability and temperature
stability is also tested.The GoldMemory is able to detect errors
caused by wrong settings parameters of the memory subsystem
(BIOS settings and incompatibility of separate memory modules among
themselves and among other parts, as well.)

Is it possible to use SHAREWARE version of the GoldMemory to be able
to be tested fully in the period of 30 days?

SHAREWARE version is fully evaluated version, where all properties
and separate functions offered by registered program can't be used.

Is it possible to use the GoldMemory under Windows?
|
| A: |
There is no possibility to use the GoldMemory under Windows because
the GoldMemory requires direct acces to hardware.That is why is not
possible to use no memory devices/managers from DOS.
Other diagnostic programs for Windows can't test memory areas occupied
by Windows and in addition there is not available all power of computer.

Your
test say my memory failed. What does that means?
Because everything I do in Windows works fine. |

It looks like failing DIMM(s),wrong BIOS memory settings,etc...
Errors found can cause instability of operating system or undesirable
states durring operation of aplication programs (blue screens,freeze
PC,etc.) can appear.
This is recomended:
1.Check BIOS parameters settings and set standard
values recomended by producer for installed memory modules,system bus,
motherboard,etc..
2.Check functional cooling of every components (eg.cooler fans)
3.When two or more memory modules are installed, it is necessary
to test each of them separately to detect the wrong one.
If non of them fails during the test, it is due to their mutual
incompatibility in motherboard (chipset) used.
Remark: It is suitable to use memory modules of the same type
and of the same producer.
4.It is suitable to check failed memory modules also in other
motherboard to avoid influence of motherboard,processor and caches.
Please use NORMAL Test Mode, for better results...
It is recomended to let to run the GoldMemory at least one cycle
without disruption.

is the way errors other than memory fails are reported ? |

GoldMemory tests PC memory system as whole system (complex).
The GoldMemory can't test each compoment (motherboard,processor,chipset,power...) separately.

The GoldMemory is hardware independent software memory subsystem tester. |

Both
the BIOS and Windows System Properties report a total of
192MB, but
for some reason GoldMemory doesn't see it. |

It could be caused by bad compatibility between hardware (system BIOS)
and GoldMemory
(BIOS memory size detection routine).
Well, there are one way to solve this problem (for some reasons):
Run GM.EXE with /D parameter (non-BIOS memory size detection) |

When
I reboot to dos and run the program I get the message
"Error, extended memory driver detected" what am I
doing wrong??? |

The
program can be run only without any memory managers,
such as HIMEM.SYS or EMM386.EXE.
CPU PROTECTED mode (WINDOWS DOS box, etc..) is NOT supported!
Message: (Error, extended memory driver detected)
HIMEM.SYS or another memory manager is installed into memory!!!
Create self-booting DOS/WINDOWS diskette or start DOS
compatible system
(WINDOWS Emergency mode / Bypass configuration files) and
run GM.EXE
Use command: SYS A: or
FORMAT A: /U /S
Copy GM.EXE from GM507.ZIP into diskette:
Reboot the computer to boot up from diskette drive and run
GM.EXE!
FreeDOS installation included (GM507.ZIP):
Diskette is self booting with FreeDOS operating system.(INSTALL.BAT)
It is not depending on system on your hard drive(s).
Turn OFF target PC for testing...
Insert/Leave the GoldMemory/FreeDOS diagnostic diskette into
drive A:.
Turn ON target PC and boot from drive A: (BIOS Boot Sequence
must be A,C)
For NORMAL Test press F5 to bypass a:\autoexec.bat (QUICK
Test).
Type GM and press -ENTER-. (Or change file a:/autoexec.bat)
FreeDOS makes corrupted report file (GM.RPT) sometimes...:((
Better is (for compatibility):
Start DOS compatible system (Emergency mode / Bypass
configuration files)
and run GM.EXE. The program can be run only without any
memory managers,
such as HIMEM.SYS or EMM386.EXE. Restart the computer and
press Shift+F5
when "Starting Windows 95..." message appears.
For Windows 98 press and hold Ctrl...Windows 98 boot menu
will appear.
Press Shift+F5 to start DOS. |

Why FreeDOS is used for installation and what disadvantages are caused?

These reasons are both license and simply use.
Report file can be corrupted by undesirable ASCII characters
or missing information.

of the "type of internal test" ? |

The
other informations in version v5.07 are for my
information only and I can optimalize in compliance with
them effectivity
and speed tests. |

trying your memory test program but can't get
a report to read. The test cycle seems to keep running
and never stops.How do I view the report page? |

When
your test will take a lot of time or one cycle is complete,
(for example 0:50:30/2, /2 is current test)
You can interrupt testing properly with pressing ESC key.
After interrupting GoldMemory by pressing ESC, file GM.RPT is
created and closed properly.
(Do not reset PC before.)
During testing using GoldMemory the screen shows already status
PASSED or FAILED. |

The GoldMemory report 230MB/s, does it mean the DRAM transfer rate? |

The GoldMemory calculates tranfer speed of memory subsystem, calculates
amount of data
in MBs tranfered between CPU and operating memory per 1
second. |

Is
there a "special package" (and price) for multiple
license? |
| A: |
The
GoldMemory may be used by you on more computers if you have
multilicense for each computer from license range.
E.g. If you buy 10 users licence you may use for 10
computers maximum.
There is no possibility that the GoldMemory will be used
on more than 10 computers at a time.
If you want use GoldMemory on up to 10 units max. per day at
the same time,
you must have 10 licenses,etc...
